run ads 9 on hyper-v server 2008 r2

is it possible to install and run ads9 on the (free) microsoft hyper-v server 2008 r2 operating system. There are errors to install and run it with the actual setup; is there an howto paper for installing ads 9 on this kind of server manually ? The server is more less the core role off win 2008 standard

        Dear Lance,
the host is the microsoft product "hyper-v server 2008 r2" and is NOT the full 2008 standard server. It looks more/less than the server core role from a standard server but it is a different (free) product - yes, a free server product from microsoft.

So on this machine there is no guest-os to install the database in. Yes, the foot print is small and only the advantage database is installed on this host - nothing else. For us it is primary not used to run a guest-os on it - only the database. Perhaps (perhaps perhaps) we do a windows-xp virtual machine on it only for testing purpose - maybe.

The goal is to run ads 9 on this server host.

        Regards Thomas

        Hi Thomas,

        1. Is the host just a server core or the full version of Windows 2008?

        2. Why are you putting Advantage on the host instead of a guest OS? Usually the foot print of the host OS is kept as small as possible to allow resources to be shared between all guest OSes.

        Best Regards,

Dear Lance run the standard setup on the host (not on/in a possible guest). This throws an error that some oledlg.dll is missing for running the ads_cfg-tool. We only need to run the config-tool native - arc is not neccesary. Regards Thomas

        Hi Thomas,

What errors are you seeing? Are you installing on the host or guest OS?

        Best Regards,

Superb Idea from the Mister Schloßbauer. Could be a nice way to reduce server costs a great deal. Most apps run on the Hyper-V servers anyway, so why shouldn't the ADS? :)
